Arts @ Large Mentorship Program 2011-2012
Arts @ Large seeks college students who have a passion for making arts education equitable for ALL students in the Greater Milwaukee area to participate in the Arts @ Large Mentorship Program.
Vision
Arts @ Large is an innovative program that provides multidisciplinary arts experiences for youth throughout Wisconsin. Created in 2001, Arts @ Large provides sustainable arts programming for students and teachers in public schools and highlights the essential role that art and music specialists and members of the greater arts community play in creating an inclusive atmosphere of classroom learning.
Arts @ Large provides multidisciplinary artist residencies in Milwaukee Public Schools. Opportunities are available for college and university students to assist visual, literary, multimedia and performing artist educators in short and long-term arts-integrated project-based learning experiences in K-8 classrooms. Opportunities are also available for students to work side-by-side with an arts administrator to experience the development, coordination and implementation of arts education programming.
Process
Potential Mentees are encouraged to download and complete a program application. Arts @ Large will contact you and set up an interview to discuss your particular interest and availability. Projects are scheduled during the school day, after school and in the summer.
Once a student is accepted into the Mentorship Program they will work in collaboration with their college and/or university advisor and the Arts @ Large Special Projects Coordinator to determine which opportunity is best suited to their educational needs.
Plans are solidified between the advisor and Arts @ Large serves as the coordinator with MPS administration & staff. Mentees will report directly to the Arts@Large Special Projects Coordinator during their internship for assignment details (start dates, locations, times, etc.) Final evaluations are made by Arts @ Large and given to the advisor for academic accreditation, should mentee's higher education department allow. Multiple students will be accepted into the program for the 2011/12 school year and summer terms based upon student interest and Arts @ Large need.
