This residency gave me the confidence that I can do this type of project again - even better next time.

Arts @ Large Student Teams are groups of young people that are using the arts to make a positive change in their school, community and world.

Students. Creating. Change.

Student Teams meet regularly with an Arts @ Large facilitator and/or a Teacher Advisor to discuss issues that are important to them and their peers then brainstorm ways in which they can use the arts to address those issues.

Tips on forming a Student Team at your school:

  • Identify a Teacher Advisor. This person is responsible for recruiting students and helping to coordinate and schedule Student Team meetings.
  • Recruit Students. Anywhere from 5-15 students, grades 4th-8th, that represent the diversity of the student population, are welcome to participate. Try to identify students with potential as emerging leaders. Emerging leaders: students who have potential to become leaders when given the right opportunity.

In partnership with the Wisconsin Board for People with Developmental Disabilities, Arts @ Large will be accepting applications for projects that teach altruism while engaging youth in creative expression through the arts.

Student Teams can submit an application for a $500 mini-grant that includes:

• Name of Teacher Advisor
• Description of the project (full application below)
• How this project will have a positive effect on their school, community or world
• Proposed budget for the project
• List of Students involved with the project
• Principal's signature
