Featured Exhibit: Dave The Potter

Witness fusion of literary and visual arts in this exhibit inspired by Dave the Potter. An African-American potter and poet, enslaved during the 1800s, Dave’s poetically engraved pots were catalysts to this multidisciplinary arts experience, with artwork by students from Brown Street Academy, Browning School and Silver Spring Neighborhood Center.

A Thousand Words

Join us at the Jewish Museum Milwaukee, as we learn how to dynamically explore the Depression Era Curriculum with your students through theatre games, 1930s poetry, photography and playwriting.

  • Participate in activities designed to teach key concepts of the Depression Era (aligned directly with MPS textbooks and the Comprehensive Literacy Plan).
  • Receive age-appropriate resource materials about the Great Depression and photographer Walker Evans for use in your classroom.
  • Receive a study guide for Milwaukee Chamber Theatre's production of A THOUSAND WORDS, by Gwendolyn Rice.
  • Receive a voucher to attend any performance of A THOUSAND WORDS, by Gwendolyn Rice at Milwaukee Chamber Theatre.
  • Receive a hands-on photography workshop and resources to help your students produce creative responses to the curriculum.
  • Arts @ Large will hold a drawing of tickets for up to 6 classrooms to attend matinee performances of A THOUSAND WORDS.
