Music Under the Stars with Mike Sturgis and the A@L Jazz Orchestra*

Originally from the United States, Mike has lived in England for more than 30 years and has appeared live and on record with a number of international artists including A-ha, Steve Winwood, Paul Carrack, Jack Bruce, David Bowie, Elton John, Tom Jones, Bob James, Randy Brecker, Bob Mintzer, Wishbone Ash, Asia, Bono, Dr. John, 21 Guns, Joss Stone, Beverly Knight, Mica Paris and many more. Mike is currently the drummer with jazz-funk group Redtenbacher’s Funkestra (19 albums, 4 million Spotify streams, 2.5 million YouTube views).

As an educator, Mike has performed masterclasses internationally and has taught hundreds of students, many of whom have gone on to have successful careers in the music industry, including Arts @ Large’s own CEO, Sean Kiebzak!

In addition to teaching, Mike has held managerial roles at institutions such as the Academy of Contemporary Music (Guildford), DIME ONLINE (Detroit) and the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance (London). Mike has graduated with a BA in Studio Music and Jazz from the University of Miami and obtained a Post Graduate Certificate in Education from University of London. He is also a Fellow of England’s Higher Education Academy.

Mike is assembling a group of fellow musicians to perform as the first ever, Arts @ Large Jazz Orchestra, as well as offering a masterclass for aspiring drummers.
