Do you want to be part of the 2025-26 Artist in Residence Cohort?

The Arts @ Large Community Center Artist in Residence program provides artists of all mediums in the Milwaukee area the opportunity to showcase their own art and creative practice. Through this program artists will invoke community, build capacity, and translate their work as artist-educators.

This unique residency offers artists:

  • $10,000 Residency stipend
  • Additional $2,000 stipend for post-closing reflection and storytelling
  • Three months of access to the Heart Space studio in the Arts @ Large Community Center
  • Exhibition in the Arts @ Large Gallery
  • Professional curation consultation from Arts @ Large Staff
  • Dedicated pre-and post-residency reflection, research, and exploration
  • Opportunities to engage with a diverse spectrum of learners
  • Curriculum/workshop development
  • Opening reception promoted by Gallery Night MKE
  • Professional documentation and promotion of work created during the residency
  • Closing celebration

Workshops, curated conversations, exhibitions, performances, and studio practice are just a few of the opportunities that will be explored in designing your residency. You will work with our Curator, Director of Programs and the rest of the Arts @ Large team to dream up your residency plans.

The Arts @ Large Artist in Residence program may support a single artist or group of artists encouraging collaboration across art forms. Residencies will be individualized and tailored to the needs of the artist(s) and Arts @ Large. It is our expectation that this residency will support cultural and artistic exchange, nurture experimentation and visionary ideas, as well as support research and the development of new creative work.

Artists are expected to spend a minimum of eight hours a week in the studio/gallery space engaging as an artist, educator, or both.
