October 17th, 5 - 9 pm
Join us on Gallery Night MKE for the Opening Celebration of Whitney Salgado, a Latine digital painter, freelance illustrator, and MIAD graduate.
Consciousness in Craft is rooted in intention and focused on utilizing one’s hands and memory to create. In an increasingly digital world where AI is rampant, art is a discussion of what it means to be human, embrace tradition, and express oneself.
Light bites will be served made by Green Baked Goods.
The Artist in Residence program is made possible due to the generous support of Milwaukee Arts Board, Ruth Foundation for the Arts, and Wisconsin Arts Board.
Begins October 11th
Milwaukee youth ages third thru eighth grade will explore painting, fashion and digital art over six Saturdays this Fall with three local Artist Educators.

This class is FULL, and we will not have room for walk-ins. Please join us in November.
Join us for a heartfelt Masterclass with local artist Whitney Salgado as we explore nichos and how they can be used as storytelling mediums. A Nicho is a type of decorative shadowbox or shrine in Latine folk art that can honor a loved one, celebrate cultural icons, or everything in between. They are most commonly seen during Día de los Muertos celebrations and are often placed on altars as decorations.
From start to finish, Salgado will go over techniques to design, assemble, and decorate your own personal nicho with thoughtfulness and intention. Come with an idea or find inspiration during the workshop, listen to the history and culture around this craft, and let’s explore how nichos can heal, capture life, and honor our loved ones.
Pre-registration is required to attend.
Begins November 4th
Career Development interns will explore our Ecoliteracy cornerstone, exploring the question, “How do places in Milwaukee reflect the history of the people and communities who have lived here?”. Interns will support our Autonomous Youth Council Leadership Group in executing their short film project, “Streets with a Story: A Short Film Project About Memory, Place, and Community”. This project will utilize our Mobile Media Lab to survey the city of. Milwaukee, using digital art tools to tell a story that explores this question.
